Community Lender Helps Derry Charity To Open New Centre

A nonprofit in Ireland that provides art and well-being courses to adults and children with learning disabilities has expanded with the help of a government-backed charity.

Community Finance Ireland, which has committed more than $100 million to hundreds of community organizations across the island of Ireland, helped Aspace2 find new premises for its hi-tech multisensory rooms, which include a color wash wall, tactile wall panel, fiberoptic shower, and wind machine, reports the Irish Times.

The multisensory rooms help people of any ability control their immediate environment.

Aspace2's registered learning disability nurse, Martina Bell, has worked with children and adults who have complex learning needs for more than 20 years.

She started Aspace2 in Derry in 2012 to provide art and well-being courses to adults and children with learning disabilities.

But with around 200 visitors every week to Aspace2's hi-tech multisensory rooms, Bell began hunting for new premises to cope with the demand.

In 2018, she was able to move the facility from Eglinton to a larger specialist center in Campsie Co Derry, after approaching CFI for help.

Now, as well as being able to accommodate additional clients (currently 69 on its register), Aspace2 has just created three new roles, including an operations Read the Entire Article
